3. Tree WorksJun 2018Beech (T1) - Fell because of EXCESSIVE height in relation to the proximity to the buildings of 5 & 7 Carr Brow. The tree is positioned directly between the two houses at a distance of 5 metres from front aspect of the tall Edwardian property, at a height that is somewhere between 1.75 and 2 times the size of the property. Residents of both properties are very concerned about the damage that is being done to the building and the possibility of monumental damage to the building, other properties, safety of residents and road etc should the tree be uprooted in today's radically different weather patterns. On occasion the residents of 5 & 7 have had to sleep downstairs in conditions of high wind, due to the fear of damage to the property. Both properties have suffered shredded phone lines in the past, falling branches, continually blocked gutters, which if not immediately tackled have caused water ingress and damage to the interior of the houses. Damage to the chimney has also occurred with the last 12 months, needing full scaffolding to repair at great cost. Both residents always cleared the gutters regularly themselves, but one now spends considerable time abroad and the other recently widowed, both are now paying considerable amounts of money to agents to keep clear. Insurance has also become a major concern with companies now offering to only remove the tree and not repair the building if the tree falls. We have kept the tree in good order with allowed amount of pruning, but now feel trapped and aggrieved by the preservation order that we cannot take the action needed, and in a constant state of worry for cost if increasing repairs caused by tree and danger of falling. Is the Council prepared to take responsibility for the cost of repairs to the property with the TPO in place? The solution for us would be to have the tree felled and provide replacement saplings, 3 in number, due to failure rate.
