    In report

Horse chestnut - fell because the tree is diseased and in decline (see expert's report). The tree has been suffering from Bleeding Canker and Cameraria Ohridella for several years, resulting in very thin leaf cover and leaves starting to turn brown within six weeks of emerging (see photos). The tree therefore has small brown or no leaves for 10???? months of the year and has now become an eyesore rather than an amenity. The TPO was placed on the tree nearly 30 years ago. However since then, the tree has become diseased and many houses have been built and trees planted in the vicinity. These new trees are now maturing and, combined with the houses, mean the horse chestnut tree is not visible from most locations in Newstead Road (see photos). Even if the tree was healthy, it would therefore add minimal amenity value to the area. The tree is also potentially dangerous (see http://www.rhs.org.uk/Gardens/News/Anne-Frank-tree-topples for details of what happened to a horse chestnut with the same problems) and casts excessive shade over a large area of my back garden, as it is positioned behind a south facing fence. It also stunts the growth of healthy sycamores on the other side of the fence in the public alley and has a large root circling the trunk which is restricting the tree's growth. Replant with 1 magnolia tree in front garden (so more visible to the public and therefore providing better amenity value).
