Bulmer is a locality situated within the YO 60 postal district of York, England. The area is noted for its connection to the North York Rifle Militia, a military unit that originated in the North Riding of Yorkshire. The militia began as Trained Bands in 1558 and evolved into the North York Rifles, becoming one of the first British units to include specialist riflemen. It served in home defence and internal security during Britain’s major wars, and later became a battalion of the Green Howards in 1881.
