The A488 road runs through Pontesbury, providing a direct route from Shrewsbury to Bishop's Castle. Nearby, the village of Minsterley is just over a mile further southwest. In 2015, Shropshire Council’s Place Plan identified Pontesbury and neighbouring Minsterley as towns for development strategy purposes.
