Pentre is part of Deeside, a predominantly industrial conurbation that spans towns and villages in Flintshire and Cheshire on the Wales–England border. The area is situated near the canalised stretch of the River Dee, which flows from Chester into the Dee Estuary. Deeside includes Connah’s Quay, Shotton, Queensferry, Aston, Garden City, Sealand, Broughton, Bretton, Hawarden, Ewloe, Mancot, Pentre, Saltney and Sandycroft. The population of the conurbation is around 50,000, with a plurality of 17,500 residents living in Connah’s Quay. Historically, the region has hosted industrial activity, such as Unilever’s former operations, and local governance by the former Alyn and Deeside District Council.
