For the Yew tree I want to plant a new yew hedge running underneath. So as to provide light for the new yew hedge the existing large yew tree will need to be reduced in size so as to allow light and rain to reach the hedge. So that the yew tree keeps a proportional shape the tree surgeon has suggested a crown reduction of about 1m equal to a 5-10% reduction in crown size. In addition some of the branches are touching a neighbours roof and so it will be a good opportunity to stop that. ..For the Indian bean tree a tree surgeon has advised that we reduce the size of the crown as the tree is quite large and has significant lateral growth that can lead to instability and cause some branches to become too heavy and break. He suggested a crown reduction of about a 0.2-0.5m (it will vary from branch to branch so as to optimise cut point) which would be about a 5-10% reduction in crown size...Our garden is very mature (and my pride and joy!) The works are relatively minor and will both help to preserve the trees (in the case of the bean tree) and add to the overall tree count (in the case of the yew). Each tree sits surrounded by mature shrubs and other trees and please be assured that the work will be carried out in such a way so as to promote the overall wellbeing and visual beauty of the garden. .
