North Curry is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England, situated five miles (8.0 km) east of Taunton. The parish includes several hamlets and had a population of 1,640. The surrounding landscape features remnants of the Chard Canal, a 13.5‑mile (21.7 km) tub‑boat canal that ran from the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal at Creech St. Michael, over four aqueducts, through three tunnels and four inclined planes to Chard. Completed in 1842, the canal was never commercially viable and closed in 1868, but its major engineering features remain clearly visible in the countryside today. The village’s rural character and proximity to Taunton provide a peaceful living environment with access to local amenities in the nearby town.
