TPO 0001 (1975) A50: Beech (T1) - c. 27m tall tree diseased with Ganoderma australe. Report from Hayden's Arboricultural Consultants (enclosed) who carried out both Picus Sonic Tomograph and Resistograph Micro Drill testing states that the disease is too advanced to leave the tree as is given its proximity to the house. Proposal: Follow Hayden's recommendation and fell the tree (within 6 months) to as near ground level as practical. We will not grind the stump so that the intertwined T1/T2 root system remains undisturbed..Conservation Area: Lime (T2) - similar height to T1. Has grown up with T1 and due to the proximity T2 is rather one-sided. When T1 is felled T2 will be vulnerable to winds etc without the shelter of T1. The original recommendation from Hayden's was to treat T1 and T2 as a single unit and to fell T2 too. However Hayden's have subsequently agreed that it can be saved if it is pollarded (see enclosed email). Proposal: Reduce height of tree as per illustrated photograph (approximately 21m tall) and shape in remainder of upper crown as necessary to shape the tree. There are a few thin lower branches which having broken but remained attached are growing pointing towards the ground. Proposal is to remove these also. Yew (T3) - Smaller tree adjacent to T1 and T2. It is also one-sided due to the proximity of T1 & T2 and its canopy is quite low to the ground. Proposal: Reduce the upper crown on east side (side away from T1 & T2) by approximately 2m to shape and to do a crown lift to clear approximately 2.5m. Yew (T4) - This tree has one small low branch that has grown over the years and makes it increasingly difficult for both residents and oil delivery drivers to access the oil tank. Proposal: Remove this branch to facilitate access to the tank. I do not believe that planting a new tree to replace T1 is feasible either in the current location of elsewhere in the garden: As the roots of T1 are to be left intact in the ground a new tree cannot be planted on
