The area is associated with the historic Feudal barony of Hatch Beauchamp, a medieval estate centred on the manor of Hatch Beauchamp in Somerset. The barony’s caput was the manor house now occupied by Hatch Court, a Grade I listed Palladian mansion built around 1755.
