Moss Pit is situated in the town of Stafford, the county town of Staffordshire, England. The locality’s name originates from a sand and gravel pit operated by William Moss & Son, builders, railway contractors and coal merchants active from 1855 to 1884. The pit, now called Moss Pit, was the site where William Moss was killed. William Moss and his son Samuel built railway lines around the Midlands, including the Queensville curve in Stafford. In the early 20th century, William’s grandson Percy George Shaw Moss served as an alderman of the Borough of Stafford in the West Midlands. The area is part of the postal district ST 17 and reflects a modest industrial heritage within a market town setting.
