Yew - reduce side branches of neighbours yew tree (lower canopy) by approximately 3m over garden, leaving canopy spread of approximately 9m. Reason: As the branches totally dominate our courtyard garden, there is a constant deluge of debris that requires daily maintenance from March onwards. Whilst this is a huge inconvenience, it is at least manageable as much of the debris can be manually removed using one method or another. The main problem occurs from August onwards (for approx. 3 months), as we enter berry season. The berries coat the entire garden in vast quantities, and are so sticky they cannot be swept, blown or pressured washed away. Our washing line stretches across the courtyard, therefore the berries splatter over the clean clothes/bedsheets, leaving an indelible stain. I've had to discard many items where the stain was too visible. From the start of August we are unable to use the garden for outdoor dining/entertaining, as the berries land in our hair/food, and that of our guests. Alas, this is the main function of our courtyard, therefore it is rendered useless for the remainder of the year as the season merges into winter. The other very worrying problem is that the berries are lethal to dogs if ingested, therefore the garden is out of bounds to our dog during this season, which poses a real problem in the hot weather. This August bank holiday was no exception! Prior to making a decision, I would very much welcome a visit from one of your officers to demonstrate the extent of the problem, and how this affects our daily lives. Thank you in advance.
