Cassington is a village and civil parish in Oxfordshire, situated about 5 miles (8 km) northwest of Oxford. The settlement lies on gravel strata about ½ mile (800 m) from where the River Evenlode meets the River Thames, giving the area a rural riverside character. The parish covers the hamlet of Worton to the northeast and the site of the former hamlet of Somerford to the south, which appears to have been abandoned in the early 14th century. Cassington is divided into two parts – an upper and a lower section – each with its own village green, which provide focal points for community life. According to the 2011 Census the parish had a population of 750, indicating a small, close‑knit community. The postal district OX 29 places the village within the broader Oxford area, while its location on the Thames floodplain offers both scenic value and a sense of historic continuity.
