The parish of Forncett St. Peter, situated within the NR 16 postal district of Norfolk, is home to the historic St Peter’s Church, commonly known as St Peter’s and St Paul’s. The church is an active place of worship and is recognised as a nationally significant Grade I listed building. Its Anglo‑Saxon round tower, constructed around 1000 AD, is considered one of the best examples of its kind in the country, and the building contains other Anglo‑Saxon features. Much of the main structure dates from the 14th and 15th centuries, with significant elements including the 1485 Drake tomb, a unique ancient staircase in the tower, carved pew ends, fine ledger slabs in the chancel and nave, and Victorian coloured glass windows. The church also houses a ring of six bells and a comprehensive modern guide. A notable historical connection is with William Wordsworth, whose sister Dorothy lived at the rectory from 1788 until 1794 with her uncle, the rector, William Cookson.
