Budby is a hamlet and former civil parish, now part of the parish of Perlethorpe cum Budby, in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England. The locality lies about two miles (three kilometres) north of Edwinstowe. Nearby is Thoresby Hall, the former home of the Earl Manvers, which has been converted into a hotel; the village remains wholly owned by the Thoresby Estate. In 1891 the parish had a population of 121. Budby’s setting is typical of rural Nottinghamshire, with close ties to the surrounding countryside and historical estates. The hamlet’s small size and ownership by a single estate suggest a tightly knit community and a tranquil rural character, while its proximity to Edwinstowe and the NG 22 postal district places it within reasonable reach of local amenities and transport links in the wider area.
