Thornton is part of the Milton Keynes district in Buckinghamshire, England. The area is in proximity to Stadium MK, a football venue designed by Populous and opened in 2007. The stadium serves as the home ground for the EFL League Two side Milton Keynes Dons. The club was relocated from Wimbledon, London, to Milton Keynes in September 2003, following a decision by the Football Association and an independent commission. The move, which occurred 16 months after permission was granted, prompted the formation of AFC Wimbledon by supporters in 2002.
