This property is located in Arlington, a part of the town of Barnstaple in Devon, known for its historic river‑port setting and Victorian market building.
Arlington lies within the town of Barnstaple, a civil parish in North Devon, England. The town is situated at the lowest crossing point of the River Taw before the Bristol Channel, making it a historic river‑port. From the 14th century, Barnstaple was licensed to export wool, which brought great wealth to the area. Later, it imported Irish wool, but the harbour silted up and other trades such as shipbuilding, foundries and sawmills developed. A Victorian market building survives in the town, featuring a high glass and timber roof on iron columns. The town’s history and its surviving market building give the area a sense of traditional character and a connection to its maritime past.
