The City of London, a city, ceremonial county and local government district in England, is the historic centre of the wider London metropolis. Established by the Romans around 47 AD as Londinium, it has evolved into a modern financial hub while retaining its ancient heritage. Surrounded by the modern ceremonial county of Greater London, the City remains a separate local authority area governed by the City of London Corporation and led by the Lord Mayor of London. It is a unique local authority that blends historic streets, notable landmarks, and a concentration of businesses, making it a distinctive and vibrant part of London’s urban fabric.
