Horsley Cross lies at the southern end of the Mistley civil parish, a village and civil parish in the Tendring district of northeast Essex. The parish includes Mistley and New Mistley, both situated beside the Stour Estuary, Mistley Heath about a mile to the south, and Horsley Cross itself. Mistley is roughly 11 miles northeast of Colchester and is east of, and almost contiguous with, Manningtree.
