Shotton, Flintshire is a town and community that forms part of the Deeside conurbation in Wales. The area lies along the River Dee and is joined with Connah's Quay, close to the border between Wales and England. Deeside is a predominantly industrial region that includes several towns and villages such as Queensferry, Aston, Garden City, Sealand, Broughton, Bretton, Hawarden, Ewloe, Mancot, Pentre, Saltney and Sandycroft. The population of the wider Deeside area is around 50,000, with the largest settlement, Connah's Quay, hosting approximately 17,500 residents. Shotton’s proximity to the river and its position within this network of communities make it a notable part of the local industrial landscape.
