It is on the outskirts of the larger town of Crewe. The settlement, formerly known as Crewe-by-Farndon, was a former civil parish and township within Farndon. In 2001 the parish had a population of 45. In 1866 Crewe became a separate civil parish, and on 1 April 2015 the parish was abolished and merged with Farndon.
