Brighton is a vibrant seaside resort located within the unitary authority of Brighton and Hove in East Sussex, England. Situated 47 miles south of London, it is steeped in history, with evidence of settlement dating back to the Bronze Age. Over the centuries, Brighton, originally known as "Brighthelmstone," has evolved significantly. Documented in the Domesday Book of 1086, the town grew in importance during the Middle Ages but faced challenges in the early modern period due to foreign attacks and economic difficulties. In more recent times, Brighton gained popularity as a health resort, particularly known for sea bathing, which was once considered a remedy for various ailments. Its improved transport links with London made it an accessible destination, further boosting its appeal. Brighton's character is a blend of historic charm and modern vibrancy, attracting visitors and residents with its seaside setting, cultural offerings, and lively atmosphere. The town's integration with Hove in 1997 to form the unitary authority of Brighton and Hove, later granted city status in 2000, reflects its growing significance and dynamic nature. Living in Brighton offers a unique combination of historical depth and contemporary seaside living.
