Auchnagatt, Ellon, AB41 8TF

Auchnagatt is situated within the town of Ellon in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Ellon lies approximately 16 miles north of Aberdeen, on the River Ythan, which features one of the few undeveloped river estuaries on the eastern coast of Scotland. The town is part of the ancient region of Formartine and its name derives from the Gaelic term Eilean, meaning island, reflecting the presence of an island in the River Ythan that historically provided a convenient fording point. In 1707 Ellon was made a burgh of barony for the Earl of Buchan. The area is home to a unique collection of ancient yew trees and is twinned with the city of Chièvres in Hainaut Province, Belgium. These features give the locality a distinctive historical ambience and a sense of continuity with Scotland’s rural heritage.
