Since 1999, Ingram Consultancy has bridged the gap between practical craftsmanship and professional surveying. Led by RICS-accredited Graham Abrey, we specialise in the sensitive repair and adaptation of historic structures, from medieval churches to Roman sites across the UK and beyond.

Preserving the Past with Practical Expertise

We aren't just consultants; we are guardians of heritage. Established in 1999, Ingram Consultancy is a collaborative of independent specialists dedicated to the conservation, repair, and reuse of historic buildings and ancient monuments.

We believe that historic buildings require more than just a standard survey. They require an intuitive, site-specific approach that respects the original fabric while ensuring the structure remains viable for the future.

Why Heritage Owners Trust Our Team

Our practice is led by Graham Abrey, a Chartered Building Surveyor accredited in conservation by the RICS. What sets us apart is our unique blend of high-level professional training and hands-on practical experience.

Graham’s background as a supervisor for a UK stone masonry company means we don't just understand the theory of conservation—we understand the materials. We combine this deep knowledge of traditional techniques with modern project management to deliver workable solutions for complex sites.

Specialisms

Roman Ruins to Victorian Infrastructure

From Roman Ruins to Victorian Railways

Our work takes us across the globe, dealing with everything from Middle Eastern archaeological sites to local medieval churches. We have a proven track record of delivering excellence on some of the UK's most significant structures:

  • Buckfast Abbey: We designed and supervised the conservation of the external fabric and the installation of intricate new Purbeck limestone and Cosmatesque floors.
  • Guildford Castle: Our team carried out detailed condition surveys and prepared the conservation designs to reinstate the roof and floors of this Norman tower keep.
  • Horton Court: We managed essential fabric and roof repairs for this Grade I listed manor house, ensuring its preservation for generations to come.

A Collaborative Approach to Conservation

We work in two distinct ways to suit your project needs. We often act as specialist sub-consultants to other professionals on large-scale infrastructure projects, providing the technical support required for complex heritage assets.

Alternatively, we accept direct appointments as designers and project managers for smaller conservation programmes. By drawing on our network of master masons, paint analysts, and buildings archaeologists, we ensure your project is handled by the very best in the field.

"We uniquely combine practical skills with professional experience to bring workable, informed, and site-specific solutions to every historic site we touch."
