156 Murray Road, Greystones, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S11 7GH, Sheffield
Led by a former Senior Lecturer in Building Surveying, we skip the buzzwords to provide expert, honest advice on traditional buildings. From damp pathology to heritage conservation, we help you buy and maintain historic homes with confidence and academic-grade technical insight.
We don’t believe in generic buzzwords or stock imaging. Every property we discuss and every photo we share represents real work we have undertaken. Based in Sheffield and serving clients across England, Scotland, and Wales, we are a specialist practice dedicated to the care, purchase, and maintenance of traditionally constructed buildings.
Our approach is simple: we do a proper job. We take the time to provide you with as much relevant information as possible, ensuring you understand the unique physics of your property before you commit to a purchase or a repair.
Academic Rigour Meets Practical Experience
Our team is led by Simon Hollis, a Chartered Surveyor and former Senior Lecturer in Building Surveying at Sheffield Hallam University. Having lectured on everything from Building Pathology to Heritage Conservation, we bring a level of technical depth to our surveys that is rare in the private sector.
We don't just look at a building; we understand why it stays up, why it might be falling down, and everything in between. This academic background is paired with years of hands-on experience refurbishing traditional homes and providing pre-purchase advice on everything from two-up-two-down terraces to 21-bedroom country estates.
Cutting Through the "Rising Damp" Confusion
If you are worried about damp, you have come to the right place. Our director’s award-winning Master’s research specifically investigated the confusion within the surveying profession regarding rising damp.
We pride ourselves on providing evidence-based advice. We won't recommend expensive, unnecessary chemical treatments that can actually harm traditional masonry. Instead, we use specialised investigation techniques to find the root cause of moisture and provide a sensible path forward.

We are committed to the continuous study of historic environments. Our expertise is backed by rigorous qualifications and industry-recognised training:

Why Homeowners and Investors Trust Us
Traditional pre-1919 buildings require a different set of rules. Using the wrong mortar or the wrong insulation can lead to catastrophic breathability issues. We specialise in the triage of maintenance decisions, the use of lime-bound mortars, and the principals of low-carbon interventions in historic settings.
Whether you are a first-time buyer of a Victorian terrace or an investor looking at a complex listed building, we provide the clarity you need to move forward with confidence. We work across the UK, bring
