We are more than just estate agents; we are rural professionals. Led by Lizzie Chance MRICS FAAV, we provide practical, expert advice on everything from farm sales and valuations to complex RPA schemes and dispute resolution across the South West.
Practical Support for the South West’s Farming Community
We understand that your land is more than just an asset—it’s your livelihood and your legacy. At West Country Rural, we combine deep-rooted local knowledge with high-level professional expertise to help farmers and landowners across Devon, Cornwall, and the surrounding counties thrive in an ever-changing industry.
Our approach is built on three pillars: being approachable, practical, and professional. Whether you are navigating the complexities of a tenancy agreement or looking to bring a block of land to market, we provide the steady hand and expert insight you need.
Led by Lizzie Chance — Expertise You Can Rely On
Our firm was established in 2016 by Lizzie Chance (née Burton), a Chartered Surveyor and RICS Registered Valuer with a wealth of experience across the English regions. Lizzie isn't just a surveyor; she is a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (FAAV) and holds a specialist diploma in Arbitration.
This high level of qualification means we don't just "list" property. We provide robust, evidence-based advice on everything from complex landlord and tenant disputes to strategic tax planning and succession.
Why We Are More Than Just Estate Agents
When it comes to selling land—whether it’s a small five-acre block or a sprawling commercial farm—we believe every acre deserves meticulous attention. Because we are rural professionals first, we identify the hidden value in your property that a standard agent might miss, such as:
- Development Potential: Identifying opportunities for agricultural or equestrian dwellings.
- Grant Eligibility: Understanding how current SFI or Countryside Stewardship agreements impact a sale.
- Legal Clarity: Navigating agricultural law and tenancy arrangements to ensure a smooth transaction with no unpleasant surprises.
Navigating the RPA Landscape
The world of rural grants is in a state of flux. We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of the transition from traditional payments to the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) and new Countryside Stewardship tiers. We take the "decision paralysis" out of the process, providing clear, practical advice on:
- SFI and Countryside Stewardship applications and agreement management.
- Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF) grant applications.
- Capital Grant Schemes for fencing, water troughs, and hedge laying.
- Slurry Infrastructure Grants and complex Natural England applications.
