Our practice is led by Richard Fairs, a Chartered Building Surveyor who qualified in 1989. With over 25 years in private practice, Richard has headed regional departments for national agencies before establishing The Building Consultancy to offer a more responsive, tailored service.

Specialists in Heritage and Listed Buildings
Not every surveyor understands the nuances of historic fabric. In 2004, Richard acquired the RICS Diploma in Building Conservation, cementing our reputation as experts in the care of old and listed buildings.
We take pride in breathing new life into historic spaces. A standout project for us was the restoration of a Grade II listed library in Bristol. We stripped away 1970s additions to reveal its former glory, designing a sympathetic mezzanine and unique "S-shape" stairs to make the building commercially viable as a modern business centre while respecting its 1896 architecture.
