We bridge the gap between commercial property expertise and archaeological rigour. Led by a Fellow of the RICS and a PhD archaeologist, we provide the deep analysis and practical repair strategies your historic building deserves—from Grade I landmarks to cherished period homes.
Preserving the Past with Scientific Precision and Commercial Insight
Old buildings fascinate us. Whether it’s the architectural style, the social history, or the simple beauty of the fabric, we believe historic properties are at their best when they are understood, cherished, and sustainable. At Maybank Buildings Conservation, we provide the holistic support owners and managers need to ensure these buildings survive for future generations.
We don't just look at the surface; we investigate the historical development, construction materials, and the specific agents of decay. Whether you are managing a Grade I landmark or a private period home, we help you find solutions that respect the building's heritage while meeting modern needs.
A Unique Partnership: Surveying Meets Archaeology
What sets us apart is our leadership. Our firm was founded in 2013 to combine two distinct but essential disciplines:
- Geoff Maybank FRICS IHBC: An RICS-accredited chartered surveyor with over 38 years in the property industry. Geoff is an expert in building pathology and the commercial realities of property management.
- Dr Dav Smith: A specialist buildings archaeologist with a PhD from the University of York. Dav brings elite skills in metric recording, 3D modelling, and archaeological analysis.
Together, we offer a level of insight that few firms can match—merging practical repair strategies with deep historical research.

We provide a full suite of services to guide you through the complexities of heritage ownership. This includes navigating the planning system with Listed Building Consent and Heritage Impact Assessments, as well as technical advice on damp, timber, and fabric disrepair.
From National Landmarks to Local Heritage
Our expertise is trusted by major conservation trusts and private owners alike. A notable highlight of our work includes the emergency ceiling repairs at the Grade I listed Assembly Rooms in York, one of the most significant neo-classical buildings in England. We applied the same rigorous standards to that project as we do to every house history or condition survey we undertake.
"At best an old building is one that reveals a past, a present and, if cherished, a future."
Whether you need a detailed 3D model of a ruin, a specification for sensitive repairs after fire or flood, or a statement of significance for a planning application, we are here to ensure your building has a sustainable future.
