Since 1997, Oxley Conservation has provided expert guidance for historic and traditional buildings. Led by RICS-accredited specialist Richard Oxley, we offer sympathetic surveys, project management, and listed building advice to ensure your property is preserved for future generations.
We believe that we have a responsibility to future generations to look after what we have inherited. Established in 1997, Oxley Conservation is an independent practice dedicated to the care, repair, and sustainability of historic and traditional buildings.
Whether you are the owner of a timber-framed cottage, the custodian of a sacred site, or an investor in a commercial heritage asset, we provide a personal service that goes beyond the surface. We don't just identify problems; we help you understand the unique character and needs of your building.
Led by Richard Oxley: A Voice in Building Conservation
Our practice was founded by Richard Oxley, a Chartered Surveyor RICS Accredited in Building Conservation. Richard is a recognized authority in the field, having authored the seminal book 'Survey and Repair of Traditional Buildings – A sustainable approach'.
When you work with us, you benefit from a team that is deeply embedded in the conservation community. Richard is a member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) and frequently shares his expertise through presentations for the SPAB, RICS, and the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum.

Why Homeowners and Custodians Choose Us
- Independent Damp & Timber Reports: We identify and address the root causes of damp and decay to remedy the problem, rather than merely treating the symptoms with invasive modern chemicals.
- End-to-End Project Management: From initial condition surveys and defect analysis to the specification and supervision of conservation repairs, we manage the entire lifecycle of a project.
- Navigating the Planning Maze: We handle complex listed building applications and planning consents, as well as securing grant funding from bodies like the Heritage Lottery Fund and English Heritage.
- Sustainable Heritage: We are passionate about improving energy efficiency in old buildings. We start with the premise that you must understand the building's fabric before making any modifications, ensuring improvements are compatible and sympathetic.
"Our principal aim is to ensure that all buildings encountered receive appropriate and sympathetic advice that respects each building’s individual nature and special qualities."
