About Avalon Surveyors Ltd

25 Years of Protecting Your Property Investments

Since our founding in 2000, we have remained an independent practice of Chartered Building Surveyors regulated by RICS. We don't just provide reports; we provide peace of mind. Whether you are managing a commercial portfolio, restoring a listed landmark, or embarking on a new development, we bring a multi-disciplinary approach to ensure your assets are protected and your projects are delivered on time.

We pride ourselves on being a family-run business that offers a personal client relationship while maintaining the capacity to deliver large-scale, complex services.

Specialists in Heritage and Listed Buildings

We have a particular passion for the conservation and restoration of historic structures. Our flagship projects often involve half-timber frame listed buildings, where we manage everything from defect pathology and structural repairs to obtaining Listed Building Consent.

We act as your expert agent, navigating the complexities of local authority approvals and architectural design to ensure that heritage assets are preserved for the future while meeting modern requirements.

Led by Experience: The Muir Family

Our practice is built on decades of hands-on construction and surveying expertise.

  • Robert K Muir (FRICS, FCIOB): Robert began his career at 18 and has spent a lifetime in the industry, qualifying as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building before becoming a Chartered Building Surveyor.
  • Benjamin Muir (BSc Hons, Director): Joining the firm in 2004, Benjamin has grown the practice's activity and complexity, ensuring we stay at the forefront of modern surveying techniques.

Our commitment to the industry extends beyond our commercial work; Robert and Benjamin also founded BuildAid, a UK registered charity that builds schools and medical facilities in areas where they can make the most impact.

Why Clients Choose Avalon

We are not a "high street" residential surveyor. We focus on professional consultancy where technical expertise is paramount.

"We provide a broad range of services to manage a property asset’s entire lifecycle—from concept design and construction to long-term maintenance and dispute resolution."

  • Building Pathology: We are experts in investigating defects and structural issues, providing clear remediation paths.
  • Project Delivery: We act as Project Managers, Contract Administrators, and Principal Designers to take your vision from a feasibility study to a completed build.
  • Dispute & Legal Matters: We provide robust advice on Party Wall matters, insurance claim mediation, and leasehold dilapidations.
