Along the route visitors encounter historic landmarks such as Headstone Viaduct, Cressbrook Mill, Litton Mill and Hassop railway station, and the trail features six tunnels. The trail’s history dates back to the Midland Railway’s construction in 1863 and its conversion from a railway to a leisure path opened in 1981.
