Arrington, Royston, SG8 0AR

Arrington is part of the parish of Shingay cum Wendy, a small settlement in Cambridgeshire. The parish lies about five miles (8 km) northwest of Royston and falls within the district of South Cambridgeshire’s Bassingbourn Ward. The area’s name derives from the Old English Earninga Strǣt, referencing the tribe of the Earningas who once inhabited the surrounding region, later known as Armingford Hundred. Ermine Street, a major Roman road that ran from London to Lincoln and York, passes through the area and is also known as the Old North Road from London to where it joins the A1 Great North Road near Godmanchester. The locality’s historical roots and proximity to this ancient route give it a distinctive character rooted in England’s early history.
