The name of the village, now familiarly Bryn, was formerly Bryn‑troed‑y‑garn, a name that appears on the 1876 OS map where a farm was situated above Meadow Row. The first vicar of St Theodore's in Port Talbot noted the settlement’s name. Twelve per cent of the village’s residents speak Welsh. The village’s rural character and proximity to larger towns provide a quiet, community-oriented setting.
