Hawks Tor, situated within Bodmin Moor in north‑eastern Cornwall, is part of a granite moorland that covers 208 square kilometres. The area is notable for its geological heritage, dating back to the Carboniferous period, and for containing features such as Brown Willy, the highest point in Cornwall, and Rough Tor. The moor is the source of many of Cornwall’s rivers and has been inhabited since the Neolithic era, with evidence of early farming, megalithic monuments, hut circles, cairns, stone circles and stone rows. In medieval and modern times the forest was largely cleared and the land became dominated by livestock rearing. Hawks Tor itself includes a reservoir, an old clay pit, and lies near the village of North Hill, providing a rural setting with historical and natural interest for residents and visitors alike.
