NL - I wish to replace the existing single glazed sliding sashes (at the front of the house) with new double glazed sashes which will be slightly thicker than the originals. The new sashes will match the old ones (in both materials and appearance) apart from the thickness of the glazing bar which will need to be increased from the existing 25mm to 38mm in order to support the additional weight of the double glazed glass panes. The property is in the West Hampstead conservation area and I have been advised that I would need to apply for planning permission in order for this change to be assessed.
