Waunlwyd, also known as Waun-Lwyd, is a village situated in the Ebbw Valley in Blaenau Gwent. It is part of the community of Cwm and lies 1.67 miles (2.69 km) south of the town of Ebbw Vale. The village is served by the Ebbw Vale Parkway railway station, which opened in 2008 when services to and from Cardiff Central began after a long period as a freight-only line. In 2015 a northwards extension opened to a new terminus at Ebbw Vale Town, and a direct service to Newport was planned for 2018, though this has been delayed to 2021. The railway station provides a connection to Cardiff and other nearby towns, making commuting feasible for residents. The setting is predominantly rural, with the village’s proximity to the valley and surrounding countryside offering a peaceful environment.
