The parish covers 7.63 square miles (19.8 km²) and had a population of 10,467 in 2001, rising to 11,014 in 2011 and 11,241 in 2021. The built‑up areas within the parish include Beauvale, Giltbrook, Moorgreen, Newthorpe, Watnall and parts of Eastwood, Kimberley and Nuthall, along with a small hamlet known as Bog‑End. Although a village called Greasley once existed, it was destroyed by the Earl of Rutland, leaving no settlement by that name today. The locality is therefore a collection of several communities rather than a single town, offering a mix of residential and rural settings within a relatively large parish area.
