Daviot (Gaelic: Deimhidh) is a village in the Highland council area of Scotland, located about 8 kilometres (5 mi) south east of the city of Inverness. It lies within the historic county of Inverness‑shire, which is named after its largest settlement, Inverness, the county town. Inverness‑shire covers much of the Highlands and some of the Hebrides and is Scotland’s largest county by land area. The county is largely rural and sparsely populated, with only three towns that held burgh status: Inverness, Fort William and Kingussie. The Great Glen, which contains Loch Ness, cuts across the county and separates the Grampian Mountains to the south east from the Northwest Highlands. The county also includes Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in both Scotland and the United Kingdom. Daviot’s setting within this landscape offers a quiet, rural character while remaining within easy reach of Inverness’s urban amenities.
