Ely, Cambridgeshire, is a cathedral city and civil parish situated in the district of East Cambridgeshire. It lies 14 miles (23 km) northeast of Cambridge, 24 miles (39 km) southeast of Peterborough and 80 miles (130 km) from London. The built‑up area had a population of 19,200 at the 2021 census. The parish, which includes the villages of Chettisham, Prickwillow, Queen Adelaide and Stuntney and the hamlet of Mile End, had a population of 20,574 in 2021. The town is known for its fireworks display in Ely Park, first staged in 1974, and its twinning with Denmark's oldest town, Ribe, since 1956. Ely City Football Club is a notable local sporting institution.
