Blencow, also spelled Blencowe, is a small village situated near Penrith in Cumbria, England. The settlement is divided by the River Petteril into two parts: Great Blencow to the south and Little. Historically, the village was served by the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway (CK&PR), a company incorporated in 1861 to build a line linking Cockermouth with the London and North Western Railway West Coast Main Line at Penrith. The railway line, 31½ miles long, included eight intermediate stations and handled passenger, goods, and mineral traffic. Passenger and goods services were operated by the LNWR, while mineral traffic was managed by the North Eastern Railway, both of which held shares in the company. The railway’s presence linked Blencow to larger transport networks, reflecting its integration into regional development during the 19th century.
