Mossley lies within the Newtownabbey settlement in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The area is part of the Antrim and Newtownabbey local government district, which was formed in 2015 by merging the Borough of Antrim with the Borough of Newtownabbey. Newtownabbey is a large settlement north of Belfast city centre and is considered part of the Belfast metropolitan area. The district surrounds Carnmoney Hill and includes former villages such as Whiteabbey, Glengormley and Carnmoney. According to the 2021 census, the Metropolitan Newtownabbey Settlement had a population of 67,599, making it the third largest settlement in Northern Ireland and the seventh on the island of Ireland. Mossley is therefore situated within a well‑populated, urban‑suburban environment that benefits from its proximity to the capital while retaining a distinct local character.
