Evercreech lies within the civil parish of Shepton Mallet, a market town in Somerset, England. The town is situated some 16 miles southwest of Bath, 18 miles south of Bristol and five miles east of Wells, and had an estimated population of 10,810 in 2019. Shepton Mallet has a long history, with evidence of Roman settlement and a medieval parish church among its listed buildings. The town was once known for its wool trade and later for brewing and cider production. It is the closest town to the Glastonbury Festival and near the Royal Bath and West of England Society showground. The Mendip Hills lie to the north and the River Sheppey runs through the town, as does the route of the Fosse Way, the main Roman road between north‑east and south‑west England. The town also housed England’s oldest prison until its closure in March 2013. Residents of Evercreech benefit from the rural character of the area while having access to the amenities and historic charm of Shepton Mallet.
