Goytre, Port Talbot, SA13 2YA

Goytre is a community situated within the town and community of Port Talbot in the county borough of Neath Port Talbot, Wales. The area falls within the postal district SA 13 and is located on the east side of Swansea Bay, about eight miles from the city of Swansea. The dominant feature of the broader town is the Port Talbot Steelworks, which covers a large area of land in the south east of the town and is the largest steelworks in the United Kingdom, as well as one of the largest in the world. The steelworks has been a significant part of the local economy, although it has faced threats of closure since the 1980s. In 2021, Port Talbot had a population of 31,550, making up roughly one‑fifth of the 141,931 residents of Neath Port Talbot. The community of Goytre is therefore part of a town that is heavily influenced by industrial activity and its associated economic and social dynamics.
