Samlesbury Bottoms is a locality in the City of Preston, Lancashire, situated on the north bank of the River Ribble. Preston is a city that serves as the administrative centre of Lancashire and the wider City of Preston local government district. The city was granted city status in 2002, becoming England's 50th city in the 50th year of Queen Elizabeth II's reign. The population of Preston was 147,835 at the 2021 census, with the City of Preston district recorded at 156,411 in 2023 and the Preston Built‑up Area at 313,322. The Preston Travel To Work Area had a population of 420,661 in 2011, compared with 354,000 at the previous census. The south bank of the Ribble forms part of the Preston urban area, though it is also part of the South Ribble borough, which is administratively separate.
