Desford, Leicester, LE9 9FX

Desford is a village and civil parish in the Hinckley and Bosworth district of England. It lies 7 miles (11 km) west of the centre of Leicester and about 7 miles north‑east of Hinckley. The settlement sits on a hill roughly 400 feet above sea level. The parish includes the hamlets of Botcheston and Newtown Unthank and a scattered settlement at Lindridge. According to the 2021 census the population was 4,592. Desford is recorded in the Doomsday Book of 1086, though the name itself predates that entry; it is thought to mean “Deor’s Ford”, suggesting an Anglo Saxon origin, or alternatively “ford frequented with wild animals.”
