Empingham is a medium‑sized village in Rutland, England, situated in the East Midlands. The civil parish had a population of 815 in 2001, including Horn, and it increased to 880 by the 2011 census. The village lies close to the dam of Rutland Water, and the A606 runs through the village, providing a direct road link. During construction, the reservoir was originally named Empingham Reservoir but was later renamed Rutland Water to preserve the county name, which was being merged with Leicestershire.
