Llandyssil is a parish situated along the River Severn, largely following the B3484 from Caerhowel railway bridge to the Abermule railway bridge. The parish is known for Caerhowel Bridge, a two‑arch cast‑iron, Grade II listed bridge that spans the River Severn west of Caerhowel in Powys, Wales. The bridge, which is 6.6 metres wide (22 ft), was built on the site of a previous bridge that may have been destroyed in the late 13th century. A timber bridge that had been rebuilt after the 1852 flood was destroyed in 1858, and the present bridge was designed by Thomas Penson as the third cast‑iron bridge in Montgomeryshire. It was renovated in the early 21st century, preserving its historic character while ensuring structural integrity. The parish’s setting along the river provides a scenic backdrop and a sense of continuity with the region’s medieval and industrial heritage.
