Bradenstoke is a village in Wiltshire, England, situated in the north of the county about 1½ miles (2.4 km) west of Lyneham. The village is best known for Bradenstoke Priory, a medieval priory of Augustinian canons regular. The priory’s site lies on a ridge above the south side of Dauntsey Vale, giving it a commanding position over the surrounding landscape. In the 1930s the property was purchased by William Randolph Hearst, who used some of its structures for the renovation of St Donat’s Castle near Llantwit Major, Wales. The priory’s historical significance and the rural setting of Bradenstoke provide a distinctive character to the locality, offering a quiet, countryside environment within reach of nearby towns such as Lyneham and Chippenham.
