This property is located in Hoo Meavy, Yelverton within the PL20 postal district, a rural setting noted for its historical railway connections.
Hoo Meavy, situated within the PL20 postal district, is a rural locality that was part of the circuitous course of the Plymouth and Dartmoor Railway. The railway ran from north to south, passing through Moortown, Grenofen, Buckland Abbey, Hoo Meavy, and Borringdon before reaching Crabtree in the parish of Egg Buckland, where it crossed. The line was originally part of the South Devon and Tavistock Railway, which linked Plymouth with Tavistock in Devon and opened in 1859. It was later extended by the Launceston and South Devon Railway to Launcen in Cornwall in 1865. The railway was a broad gauge line but from 1876 also carried standard gauge trains of the London and South Western Railway between Lydford and Plymouth, with a third rail provided for mixed gauge. In 1892 the entire line was converted to standard gauge only. This historical context highlights Hoo Meavy’s connection to regional transport heritage and its rural character within the broader Devon area.
