Lowestoft is a coastal town and civil parish in the East Suffolk district of Suffolk, England. It is the most easterly settlement in the United Kingdom, situated 38 miles north‑east of Ipswich and 22 miles south‑east of Norwich. The town’s development grew with its fishing industry and as a seaside resort, featuring wide sandy beaches that attract visitors. As fishing declined, the discovery of oil and gas in the North Sea during the 1960s shifted the local economy. In 2021 the built‑up area had a population of 71,327, while the parish itself housed 47,879 residents.
