The village was originally a hamlet of Guilsborough, becoming a separate parish from 1850. Hollowell is mentioned in the Domesday Survey of 1086 as belonging to the Bishop of Lincoln, with four villeins and one bordar having one plough, and was worth ten shillings. It has a long historical record and a small, close‑knit community.
